Sunday Stroll

Today I had a great walk in my backyard. I set out to go for a walk with no destination in mind and the purpose simply being to take advantage of being downtown. I started walking up St. Paul street and ended up at Klyde Warren park.

My first distraction was the First Baptist Church. The new section of the church was playing symphonic music over the out door speakers while people left the church. I found this curious as it was loud enough for me to think there was an actual band playing in the lobby or outside. Once I got next to the building I realized it was just speakers. I wandered over to the original part of the church and took some photos. This church was built in 1890! I would love to go inside sometime. It is certainly beautiful on the outside. I love seeing the old and new skyline together.

My next stop was the sculpture garden at the Dallas Museum of Art. The garden is serene and I was captivated by the water fall walls. I did not stop to browse the galleries in the DMA, but, I did stop in the museum store and enjoyed looking around at their fun items. Luckily I resisted buying anything!

I ended up at Klyde Warren park which is the new park built over Woodall Rogers highway in the Arts District. This was my first time visiting the park. I did not wander much in the park, but, enjoyed seeing all of the people there. I bought a sandwich from one of the food trucks in the park, Gandolfo’s Deli, and ate it while watching all of the people. There was a photo shoot going on for breast cancer awareness and a large crowd of people wearing pink shirts were being arranged for a photo. I could hear bongo drums on one of the stages and see folks dancing. There was a group of guys from Medieval times dressed in their garb having their picture taken with various folks, mainly women. There were also lots of dogs there and one that was just beautiful.

After enjoying the park, I decided to head home. I was loving the weather as it could not have been more perfect. Not too cold, not too hot, cloud cover so had protection from the sun. I loved my walk and I hope that I venture out to take many more while I am living downtown!
